Jamshedpur Athletes to Compete in World Master Athletic Championship
Four local athletes selected for international event in Gothenburg, Sweden
Jamshedpur sends four master athletes to represent India in the 25th World Master Athletic Championship in Sweden this August.
JAMSHEDPUR – Four master athletes from Jamshedpur have been chosen to represent India in the upcoming 25th World Master Athletic Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The prestigious event, scheduled from August 13 to August 25, 2024, will feature 8,000 athletes from 111 countries.
The Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand selected one male and three female competitors based on their exceptional performances.
SK Tomar will participate in the hammer throw and discus throw events in the 50+ age category.
Kavita Kumari is set to compete in the javelin throw for the 60+ age category.
In the 55+ age category, Charanjit Kaur will showcase her skills in the javelin throw.
Neetu Kumari will represent India in the 5000-meter race for the 45+ age category.
A send-off ceremony was held on August 9 at the Red Carpet Office in Telco, Jamshedpur, to wish the athletes success.
Ghanshyam Mulwani, Regional Manager (Field and Sales) of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited Jharkhand, attended as the chief guest.
Executive Officers Saikat Day and Nitish Kumar from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited Jharkhand were present as special guests.
The event also saw attendance from former international athletes and local sports personalities.
Vijay Singh, President of the Master Athletic Association of Jharkhand, expressed confidence in the athletes’ abilities to win medals.
"We are proud of our athletes and believe they have the potential to bring glory to our country," stated Vijay Singh during the ceremony.
The team will travel by train from Tatanagar to Delhi before flying to Sweden for the championship.
