Experts discuss strategies for climate-resilient cities and green infrastructure

A consultation on ‘Just Transition for Sustainable Urban Habitat’ highlights the need for strategic interventions to manage rapid urbanization impacts in Jharkhand.

RANCHI – Ranchi hosted a consultation on sustainable urban development, emphasizing the need for climate-resilient cities and green infrastructure amid rapid urbanization.

The event was organized by the Task Force on Sustainable Just Transition, Jharkhand, and CEED, in collaboration with the urban development department.

Experts stressed the importance of renewable energy adoption and energy efficiency measures.

Retired forest official A. K. Rastogi, head of the Task Force, emphasized the crucial role of sustainable habitats in securing a better future.

"Green cities are essential for managing the impacts of rapid urbanization," Rastogi stated.

Arava Rajkamal, secretary of urban development, highlighted the state’s commitment to environmentally sustainable urban development.

The strategy focuses on climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable mobility solutions.

Amit Kumar, director of State Urban Development Agency, outlined a multifaceted approach to creating sustainable urban habitats.

He addressed challenges including carbon-intensive construction and air pollution.

Ramapati Kumar, CEO of CEED, called for inter-departmental synergy and global best practices adoption.

Key takeaways included pilot projects for waste-to-energy and rooftop solarization.

The consultation emphasized adopting climate action plans and air quality management strategies.

Experts recommended expanding public green spaces to promote eco-friendly cities.

The event underscored the importance of efficient waste management practices in urban sustainability.
