Jharkhand Announces Support for Agniveer Martyrs’ Families

CM Soren Pledges Jobs and Compensation Amidst Assembly Tensions

Jharkhand government commits to aiding families of fallen Agniveers, while political tensions escalate in the Assembly.

RANCHI – Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced support for Agniveer martyrs’ families during the final day of the Assembly’s Monsoon Session.

Chief Minister Soren stated, "The state government will provide employment to the nearest kin of martyred Agniveers, in addition to ex-gratia payments."

This declaration came amidst a heated Assembly session marked by political confrontations.

The Chief Minister criticized the opposition BJP, accusing them of obstructing the state’s progress.

He highlighted his government’s achievements in job creation, claiming, "We’ve provided over 100,000 non-government jobs and personally distributed appointment letters."

Soren alleged that the BJP was using legal channels to impede the state’s policies.

He asserted that 83% of recent appointments in Jharkhand were given to local native tribals.

The Chief Minister expressed frustration with the opposition’s behavior, stating, "They’ve turned an important session into chaos without any substantial agenda."

Soren made pointed remarks about alleged past misdeeds of the opposition, saying, "I have solid evidence of their actions during their five-year tenure, including land grabbing and embezzlement."

He also criticized Assam’s Chief Minister for engaging in Jharkhand politics instead of addressing flood issues in his own state.

Meanwhile, suspended BJP MLAs staged a protest by setting up a sand-selling stall in the Assembly premises.

This demonstration aimed to highlight alleged corruption in sand-lifting and scarcity of construction materials.

The Assembly passed four bills, including one imposing a cess on mined minerals to boost state revenue.

This legislative action follows a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming states’ power to tax mineral rights.

In a counter-move, BJP MLAs submitted a resolution notice seeking the suspension of Assembly Speaker Ravindranath Mahto.

This action was in response to the Speaker’s earlier decision to suspend 18 BJP MLAs for "hooliganism" until August 2.

Opposition leader Amar Kumar Bauri accused Speaker Mahto of acting as an "agent" of Chief Minister Soren rather than an impartial Assembly leader.
