ATM Fraud Strikes Mango Resident, Rs. 30,000 Stolen

Victim’s Card Stuck in PNB ATM Leads to Unauthorized Transactions

Incident highlights need for caution when seeking assistance with ATM issues.

JAMSHEDPUR – Ajit Kumar, a resident of Mango Post Office Road, fell victim to a sophisticated ATM fraud on Thursday, resulting in the loss of Rs. 30,000 from his bank account.

The incident unfolded when Kumar’s ATM card became stuck in a PNB ATM on Dimna Road.

Following advice from a nearby vegetable vendor, Kumar called a number displayed on a banner near the ATM for assistance.

The fraudster, posing as a helpline operator, extracted information from Kumar under the guise of assistance.

Shortly after, Kumar received messages confirming three unauthorized transactions of Rs. 10,000 each.

One fraudulent transaction involved a purchase at a Bistupur jewellery shop.

Kumar has filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Police Station regarding the incident.

Cyber security expert Rahul Sharma commented, "This case underscores the importance of contacting only official bank helplines when facing ATM issues. Fraudsters often exploit such situations to gain access to sensitive information."

Local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the evolving tactics employed by cybercriminals in financial fraud.
