JAMSHEDPUR – MLA Saryu Roy of Jamshedpur East has made a passionate appeal for political unity in addressing the potential demolition of 150 homes in Kalyan Nagar and Indira Nagar.

The legislator urged political parties to cease using the issue for political gain and to avoid turning the affected areas into "political tourism" spots.

Roy proposed the formation of a citizen’s committee, bringing all concerned parties together on a common platform.

He stressed that individual efforts would be insufficient when facing a challenge that requires a unified approach.

Legal and Political Landscape

Roy highlighted that the demolition issue falls under the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) jurisdiction, equating it to Supreme Court-level authority.

He revealed plans to initiate legal action, having consulted senior advocate Sanjay Upadhyay, who agreed to assist pro bono.

The MLA urged the ruling parties to request the Chief Minister’s intervention in the NGT affidavit, potentially halting the demolitions.

Roy criticized the recent political visits to the affected areas, stating, "Empty promises and photo opportunities won’t save these homes. We need concrete legal action and a united front."

Current Situation and Future Steps

A recent meeting held by the Chief Secretary on July 15 reportedly showed no signs of concession on the demolition issue.

Roy plans to raise the matter during the upcoming Assembly session from July 26 to 30.

He called on the Jamshedpur MP to address the issue seriously in the Lok Sabha.

The NGT hearing is scheduled for August 23, with Roy expressing cautious optimism about delaying demolitions until after the Assembly elections.
