Singhbhum Chamber Urges CM’s Intervention Over Elephant Menace in Chakulia
Concerns raised over elephant attacks causing damage to properties and crops.
The Singhbhum Chamber has highlighted the increasing incidents of elephant attacks in Chakulia, appealing to Chief Minister Hemant Soren for immediate intervention.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Singhbhum Chamber has expressed serious concerns about the rising incidents of elephant attacks in the Chakulia area of the Ghatsila subdivision, urging Chief Minister Hemant Soren to intervene and address the issue.
Chamber President Vijay Anand Moonka noted that in recent years, the presence of elephants in Chakulia has escalated, causing widespread fear among local residents and workers.
These elephants, possibly straying from West Bengal forests and Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, have caused significant damage to industrial establishments, FCI warehouses, homes, and school buildings.
They have also destroyed crops and taken lives, creating a tense atmosphere in the region.
Moonka pointed out that this area does not fall under the designated Elephant Zone, yet the elephants have been causing havoc.
The elephants, in search of food, have been breaking through the walls of industrial establishments and damaging machinery and other items.
Workers in these establishments are scared, often arriving late and leaving early, which affects productivity.
Additionally, when elephants enter the area, electricity supply is cut off for hours, disrupting factory operations and leading to a decline in production.
The Chamber has appealed to the Chief Minister for immediate intervention to normalize the situation.
Moonka mentioned that the Chamber had previously informed the Chief Minister about this issue, but the situation remains unchanged.
