Parents Protest Fee Issue at Jamshedpur School
School management denies exams due to unpaid fees, parents seek resolution.
Parents of two students met the district education superintendent in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, led by Umesh Kumar, president of the Jamshedpur Parents Association.
JAMSHEDPUR – The parents of Raj and Yana Gupta, siblings studying in the 12th grade at DSM School for Excellence, sought intervention from the district education superintendent.
The school management denied the siblings the opportunity to sit for their first-term exams due to unpaid fees.
Parents requested an extension until July 15 to pay the remaining fees, which the school management refused to accept.
Umesh Kumar stated that the family had already paid ₹20,800 in April, agreeing to pay the remaining amount after the summer break.
However, the children’s father suffered a heart attack on May 29, leading to financial difficulties and the inability to pay the remaining fees on time.
The first-term exams began on July 9, and the children were barred from participating.
During the exams, the students were removed from the classroom.
When the parents protested, the school management cited low attendance as the reason for the exclusion.
A memorandum was submitted to the district education department, requesting that the children be allowed to take the exams by July 15 and receive grace marks for the subjects they missed.
One parent expressed frustration, saying, "We just need a little more time, and the school is being unreasonable."
The education department is yet to respond to the parents’ plea.
