Vegetable Prices Soar In Jamshedpur Amid Poor Rainfall

Tomatoes Hit Rs 80 Per Kg As Monsoon Delay Impacts Crop Yields

Residents struggle with 30-40% price hike on essential produce.

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur faces a severe vegetable price hike due to poor monsoon rainfall, with costs rising 30-40% in recent weeks.

Tomato prices have surged to Rs 80 per kg, highlighting the impact of low crop yields.

"Potato and onion prices have doubled, straining household budgets," stated Suresh Kumar, a local teacher.

Farmers in Patamda report significantly reduced yields due to insufficient rainfall.

Potato prices have increased from Rs 30 to Rs 45 per kg, while onions now cost Rs 40 per kg.

Budhan Singh, a Sakchi trader, noted that poor rainfall has affected supplies from neighboring states.

Green vegetables have become unaffordable for many, with lady’s fingers selling at Rs 20-24 per kg.

"If there is rain, prices are expected to come down," a vegetable vendor commented, offering hope.

Consumers are reducing vegetable consumption due to the price surge.

This situation underscores the critical role of monsoon rains in maintaining stable food prices.
