Jharkhand Revives Old Pension Scheme for School Staff

Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff to Benefit from Restored Pension Plan

The Jharkhand government has announced the return of the old pension scheme for educators and administrative staff in certain primary and high schools.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand government has reinstated the old pension scheme for teachers and non-teaching staff in aided and minority primary and high schools.

The decision is based on a directive from 1990 by the Human Resource Development Department of Bihar.

Staff members appointed on or after September 1, 2022, are eligible for this scheme.

The implementation is expected to cost Rs 1915.80 lakh annually.

Staff appointed between November 12, 2004, and November 31, 2022, can choose between the old and new pension schemes via an affidavit.

The Jharkhand State Aided and Minority Secondary Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff Federation expressed their gratitude for the government’s decision.

Federation officials praised the resolution as it addresses a long-standing issue for school staff.

"This policy change is a major relief for our community," said a Federation representative.

The old pension scheme’s revival aims to provide better financial security for eligible school employees.

The move is expected to enhance retirement benefits for educators and support staff.
