Water Crisis Sparks Protests in Adityapur’s Srinath Global Village

Residents outraged over 8 lakh rupee water bill, demand action from builder and municipal corporation

Severe water shortage highlights infrastructure challenges in rapidly growing urban areas.

JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Srinath Global Village in Ward 20 of Adityapur Municipal Corporation staged a protest on Sunday over ongoing water supply issues and exorbitant bills.

The demonstration was triggered by an 8 lakh rupee water bill presented by the builder for tanker-supplied water.

Srinath Global Village, a large residential complex with about 300 flats and duplexes, has faced acute water shortages for three months.

Municipal water tanker supply has proven insufficient, forcing residents to rely on private tankers arranged by the builder.

The latest bill amounts to approximately 2,100 rupees per household, sparking outrage among residents.

Protesters accused the builder of exploitation and criticized the municipal corporation’s inability to provide adequate water.

Residents, who paid 50-50 lakhs for their flats, expressed frustration over the persistent water crisis.

The issue reflects a larger water scarcity problem affecting nearly every ward in Adityapur Municipal Corporation.

Municipal efforts to supply water via tankers have fallen short for the area’s population of two lakh.

A city water supply project for Adityapur has been stalled for five years, exacerbating the situation.

Falling groundwater levels due to intense heat have led to the drying up of many hand pumps in the area.

Residents warn of dire consequences if the water supply project is not implemented before next summer.
