Murder Trial Unfolds: Mother Testifies in Shanky Yadav Case

Usha Devi recounts fatal attack on son in 2020, names five accused in court

Victim’s criminal history emerges during cross-examination, defense questions mother’s account.

JAMSHEDPUR – The murder trial of Shanky Yadav case, killed near Ulidih Khadiya Basti on October 1, 2020, saw a crucial development as the victim’s mother, Usha Devi, testified before Additional District Judge-4 Anand Mani Tripathi on Friday.

Usha Devi narrated the events leading to her son’s death, stating Shanky left home around 6:00-6:30 PM for Sakchi bus stand.

She claimed Rajesh Singh, Rohan Singh, Shubham Singh, Uttam Lohar, and Shekhar chased Shanky in a vehicle.

"When I reached the scene with family members, they had already killed Shanky and were leaving in a Tata Safari," Usha Devi told the court.

She described finding her son’s body, allegedly beaten with bricks and stones, and run over by a vehicle.

Usha Devi mentioned an earlier altercation involving her nephew Deepak and some of the accused, suggesting a possible motive.

During cross-examination, the defense raised questions about Shanky’s criminal background, citing over ten pending serious cases against him.

The defense alleged Shanky had fired three shots at Rajesh Singh’s Tata Safari earlier that day, a claim Usha Devi denied.

It was also noted that Shanky was in the city despite being externed, another point contested by his mother.

The case involves six accused: Shubham Singh, Chandra Shekhar Rakshit, Rohan Singh, Uttam Lohar alias Deepu alias Vishwakarma, Rajesh Singh, and Santosh Tiwari alias Mithilesh.

This testimony marks a significant moment in the trial, bringing to light conflicting narratives about the events surrounding Shanky Yadav’s death.
