Jharkhand Schools to Hold Classes Until 11:30 AM Amidst Heatwave

Joint Secretary Issues Directive to Safeguard Students from Soaring Temperatures

In response to the severe heatwave gripping the state, the School Education and Literacy Department of Jharkhand has issued a directive mandating all schools to conduct classes only until 11:30 AM, in a bid to safeguard students from the scorching temperatures.

RANCHI – Nandkishore Lal, the Joint Secretary of the department, communicated the order to all concerned officials on Wednesday, stating that classes for students from Kindergarten (KG) to Class 12 will be held from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM until further notice.

The directive applies to all categories of schools, including government, non-government aided/non-aided, minority, and private institutions.

Effective Immediately, Private Schools to Comply with RTI Act

The new order comes into effect immediately, and prior orders on school timings have been revised accordingly.

Private schools are required to adhere to the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and manage their operations in line with their respective guidelines.

The decision has been approved by the departmental in-charge secretary, highlighting the administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by the current weather conditions.

"The decision has been taken in view of the extreme heat conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of students," the order stated, urging all concerned authorities to comply with the directive promptly.

Adjustments to New Schedule and Monitoring of Situation

School authorities and parents are advised to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate the new schedule, which aims to protect students from the adverse effects of the heatwave.

The education department will continue to monitor the situation closely and issue further instructions as needed, depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

East Singhbhum Admn Confirms Directive, Clarifies No School Closures

In Jamshedpur, District Administration sources have confirmed that a directive has been issued regarding the change in school timings when contacted.

However, sources clarified that no orders have been given for the closure of schools at this point.

The directive to limit school hours until 11:30 AM is a proactive measure taken by the Jharkhand government to prioritize the health and well-being of students during the ongoing heatwave.

As the state grapples with soaring temperatures, this decision aims to provide relief to students and ensure that their academic pursuits can continue without compromising their safety.
