Cabinet expansion and election preparations likely on agenda
RANCHI – Leaders of Jharkhand’s ruling coalition will convene at the Chief Minister’s residence on Kanke Road on July 3, following the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
This meeting marks Hemant Soren’s first major political engagement since his release from jail. Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM Central Secretary and Spokesperson, told the media, “Tomorrow’s meeting is significant in many ways. Our Executive President and former Chief Minister Hemant Soren will participate after a long time.”
Expected attendees include:
– MLAs from JMM, Congress, and RJD
– Senior party officials
– Vinod Kumar Singh, CPI(ML) MLA

The meeting will focus on preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections,” Bhattacharya stated. He dismissed speculation about leadership changes, saying, “There’s no talk of changing leadership in the state as of now.
Sources suggest the possibility of a cabinet expansion, with Irfan Ansari likely to fill the vacancy left by Alamgir Alam’s arrest.
“This meeting is about strengthening our coalition and strategizing for the future,” a senior JMM leader commented, requesting anonymity.
BJP Reaction Sparks Controversy
BJP state spokesperson Avinash Kumar Singh expressed sympathy for CM Champai Soren, citing Hemant Soren’s release and Kalpana Soren’s increased political activity.
JMM Central Spokesperson Manoj Pandey rebuffed these comments, saying, “The BJP shouldn’t worry about our government or Champai Soren. He’s a seasoned leader and associate of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren.”
This meeting comes at a crucial juncture for Jharkhand’s political landscape, with the ruling coalition aiming to present a united front ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
