RANCHI – A massive fire erupted in the BHEL Company’s storage yard at the NTPC North Karnapura Power Project, causing substantial financial losses estimated in the crores.
The fire, reported on Friday afternoon, led to an immense smoke cloud covering the area.
Initially triggered by a grass fire near yard number seven, the blaze rapidly escalated despite early detection by workers.
Efforts by the CISF fire brigade from NTPC to douse the flames proved insufficient, prompting assistance from CCL’s Magadh and Amrapali project brigades.
Authorities managed to contain 95% of the fire, although its cause, suspected to be a spark from a welding machine, remains under investigation.
The incident marks the third major fire at this location, but it has not impacted the power plant’s operation, which continues to supply power without interruptions.
