Police chase bus to Chandil to nab gang members; joint raid planned in Balangir to arrest more smugglers

In a major crackdown on inter-state drug trafficking, the police have arrested six people and seized 53 kg of ganja that was being smuggled from Balangir in Odisha to Bihar.

JAMSHEDPUR – City SP Mukesh Lunayat, in a press conference at the SSP office in Sakchi, revealed that the police had received information about a gang transporting ganja from Balangir district to Mango bus stand, with plans to board a bus to Bihar.

Acting swiftly, a team led by DSP HeadQuarter One Bhola Prasad, along with personnel from Mango and Sitaramdera police stations, reached the Mango bus stand and arrested Rajeev Kumar Yadav, a resident of Jurawanpur Karari in Vaishali district, with 7 kg of ganja.

Upon interrogation, Yadav disclosed that five other gang members had already left with the remaining ganja on a bus bound for Bettiah.

The police immediately chased down the bus and intercepted it at Chandil, arresting the five other members of the international ganja smuggling gang.

The arrested individuals include Sunil Kumar Baitha from Mushari in Dhanha district of West Champaran, Rajkumar Bind from Pipra police station area of Bettiah, Sumit Kumar from Bakhtiyarpur, Patna, Gaurav Kumar, and Rajesh Kumar from Rampur village in Vaishali district.

The police recovered an additional 46 kg of ganja from them.

"The ganja was purchased in Balangir for ₹3 lakh and was to be sold in various districts of Bihar, including Patna and Vaishali, for ₹5 lakh, netting the gang a profit of ₹2 lakh," said City SP Mukesh Lunayat.

The police have announced plans to conduct a joint raid in Balangir to arrest more ganja smugglers connected to this inter-state gang.

The arrested individuals have been sent to jail, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the gang’s operations.
