Hemant Soren Seeks Supreme Court Intervention for Assembly Attendance

Ex-Jharkhand CM Appeals to Supreme Court After High Court Denies Assembly Session Entry

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s decision that barred him from attending the assembly session, amidst ongoing judicial custody on money laundering charges.

JAMSHEDPUR – Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking permission to attend the upcoming assembly session, after being denied entry by both the PMLA Court and the Jharkhand High Court.

Soren, who is currently in judicial custody facing allegations of money laundering, had previously sought approval to participate in last month’s budget session of the Assembly, a request that was declined by the courts.

The plea to the Supreme Court underscores the political and legal battle faced by Soren, emphasizing his desire to engage in legislative duties despite the charges against him.

The move raises significant questions about the rights of elected officials under judicial scrutiny and the balance between legal proceedings and legislative responsibilities.

As Soren awaits a response from the Supreme Court, the case draws attention to the intricate relationship between the judiciary and politics, particularly concerning lawmakers’ ability to fulfill their electoral mandates while facing legal challenges.
