Key Points:

- Birsanagar PM housing key handover set for June 19 amid a credit war
JAMSHEDPUR – Saryu Roy, the independent MLA from Jamshedpur West and a former state minister, is scheduled to go live on Facebook on Monday afternoon at 4:30 PM, setting off a wave of political speculation across Jamshedpur and Ranchi.
Roy had already fired back at a series of allegations targeting him, his nephew and his close associates that had been circulating on social media platforms in recent days. He had rejected those charges outright. The Facebook Live session is expected to be an occasion for him to lay out his full position.
On the question of the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, scheduled for June 18, Roy had drawn sharp criticism from political opponents. His critics had alleged that he — who had long opposed the influence of money in elections — had found a way to back Parimal Nathwani, an independent candidate widely described as a wealthy industrialist. Roy was expected to address this apparent shift in his political stance during the session.
Meanwhile, a separate dispute had been simmering over PM Awas Yojana flats in Birsanagar, where the handover of keys to allottees was reportedly scheduled for June 19. Roy had been pressing the government for several months to release the flats to their rightful allottees. However, MLA Purnima Sahu had also asserted her role in the matter, claiming the handover was a result of her own efforts.
Roy is expected to use the live session to present his version of events in the Birsanagar housing dispute, in what observers described as a credit war. He also represented the Mango area — including parts of the Mango Municipal Corporation — as it fell within his Jamshedpur West constituency. Banna Gupta, a state minister whose wife Sudha Gupta served as the mayor of Mango, was considered a political rival of Roy. Civic issues in Mango, including stalled development work, are expected to feature in Roy’s remarks, with Roy likely to train his criticism on the municipal administration.
Roy had posted publicly on social media urging his followers and the general public to join the session in large numbers. The Rajya Sabha election on June 18 had already made the political environment in Jharkhand highly charged.
Roy had earlier raised the issue of the Mango drinking water project, demanding that the civic body make its status public. His continued focus on local governance issues had kept him at the centre of Jamshedpur’s political discourse.
