ABVP Urges Kolhan University to Reopen Chancellor Portal
ABVP Seeks Increased PG Seats, Reopening of Portal at Kolhan University
The ABVP has requested the reopening of the Chancellor Portal for PG admissions at Kolhan University, emphasizing the need for increased seats in high-demand subjects like Geography.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Workers College unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is actively campaigning for the reopening of the Chancellor Portal at Kolhan University.
This initiative aims to facilitate smoother admissions to Post Graduate courses.
In a concerted effort to propel their demand, ABVP representatives met with Dr. Satyapriya Mahalik, Principal of Jamshedpur Workers College, and delivered a formal petition to the university’s Director of Students’ Welfare on Thursday.
Through their letter, the ABVP shed light on the difficulties students face while applying for PG programs, particularly M.Sc, M.Com, and MA courses.
They are advocating for the urgent reopening of the Chancellor Portal, citing the high volume of applications.
The ABVP specifically pinpointed the scarcity of seats in certain subjects, proposing an increase to accommodate more students.
The focus was particularly on the limited postgraduate opportunities in Geography, a course uniquely offered at Workers College.
With its 120-seat limit, the Geography program at Workers College, despite its popularity, has left many students from Baharagora to Jamshedpur struggling to secure admission.
ABVP’s concerns also extend to Kolhan University’s lack of initiatives to introduce Geography studies in other colleges and to increase seat capacity at Workers College.
Their demand letter also calls for the appointment of permanent Geography teachers in other colleges, underlining the necessity for a holistic solution to these educational challenges.
The ABVP delegation, including members like Bapan Ghosh, Yuvraj Kumar, Anu Kumari, Samrit Kumari, Reena Kumari, and Preeti Ghosh, underscored the urgency of their demands during the submission of the letter.
