Dhanbad Transformer Workshop Engulfed in Flames

Massive Fire at JBVNL Workshop Destroys Equipment Worth Crores

A catastrophic fire at JBVNL’s transformer repairing workshop in Dhanbad causes significant damage, with losses in crores.

DHANBAD – A devastating fire erupted in the transformer repairing workshop of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) in Dhanbad Area Board at 9.15 pm on Thursday.

The blaze, which began unexpectedly, incinerated transformers and other equipment, leading to losses amounting to crores of rupees.

Additionally, scrap valued at over Rs 50 lakh was destroyed in the fire.

Located behind the Dhanbad Sadar Police Station, the workshop was empty at the time of the incident, with employees having left at 7 pm.

Five security guards on site witnessed the fire’s sudden escalation, which rapidly grew uncontrollable.

Emergency services were promptly alerted, with JBVNL officials and the fire department responding to the crisis.

Efforts to quell the flames required the combined forces of 10 fire brigade vehicles, including teams from BCCL and HRL, battling the fire until 1 am.

While the exact cause remains undetermined, a short circuit is suspected, particularly in the workshop’s heating chamber.

SDM Uday Rajak was among the officials who arrived on the scene following the outbreak.

The workshop housed over 50 transformers, with more than 20 in working condition and others awaiting repair.

This incident, causing immense property damage, is set to undergo a thorough investigation to ascertain its cause and prevent future occurrences.
