Jharkhand Government to Aid Drought-Affected Farmers

Relief Measures for Jharkhand Farmers as 158 Blocks Declared Drought Areas

Jharkhand government set to declare 158 blocks as drought areas, providing relief to affected farmers.

RANCHI – The Jharkhand government is poised to bring relief to farmers affected by adverse weather conditions.

158 blocks across 17 districts are recommended to be declared drought areas by the Agriculture Department.

This proposal, aimed at providing ex-gratia to drought-impacted farmers, is set to be approved in the upcoming Council of Ministers meeting.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority, focusing on the drought situation.

The Disaster Management Department has been tasked to draft a proposal for declaring these blocks as drought areas for ministerial approval.

Farmers in these regions will receive an ex-gratia amount of Rs 3500 each to mitigate the impact of the drought.

Additionally, an input grant will be provided to those whose crops have suffered up to 33% damage due to insufficient rainfall.

Jharkhand’s farming community faces a second consecutive year of drought, severely impacting paddy production and causing significant financial losses.

The state government has previously provided financial assistance from its own funds to support drought-affected farmers.

Key officials, including Disaster Management Department Minister Banna Gupta, Agriculture Minister Badal, Chief Secretary L Khyangte, and others, attended the meeting, reinforcing the state’s commitment to aiding its farming community.
