FIR lodged against NCP MLA in different police stations

Desk – Making ‘objectionable’ remarks on Lord Shri Ram has now boomranged on the NCP MLA. Mumbai Police have filed a FIR against NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad for dubbing Lord Ram a non-vegetarian.

An FIR was filed against the MLA at the MIDC police station in suburban Andheri late Friday night, a police officer said Saturday. A similar lawsuit was filed against him in Pune on Friday.

Mumbra-Kalwa is represented by NCP Sharad Pawar member Awhad in Thane.

A case has been registered against Awhad in Mumbai on the complaint of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) functionary Gautam Rawaria,” the cop stated.

Awhad made offensive remarks about Lord Ram on a news program, according to the complainant.

He said Awhad was charged with section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and intentional act intended to offend the sentiments of any class by insulting any religion or religious belief).

Three days earlier, Awhad said Lord Ram was a non-vegetarian, causing uproar. At an NCP program in Shirdi on Wednesday, Awhad stated, “He (Lord Ram) used to hunt and eat. We Bahujans owned him. You (BJP) make us vegetarian, yet we eat mutton like Ram.”

Maharashtra has always called non-Brahmin Hindus ‘Bahujan’. Any wounded feelings were regretted by MLA Awhad. Police in Pune filed a FIR against Awhad after BJP state unit chief Dheeraj Ghate complained.

Awhad apologized for his infamous Lord Ram comments. Sometimes mistakes happen, he said. “I don’t say anything without research,” remarked the NCP leader. Not to overreact, but if my statements upset anyone, I apologize.”

He remarked, “I have given many speeches and never distorted anything. I want to drop this. However, numerous kandas (books) in Valmiki Ramayana mention it, notably Ayodhya Kanda in verse 102.

Awhad added, “Those who cannot talk logically will talk about matters against me, but for those who say ‘Ram Ram’, I want to tell them that Ram lives in our hearts.”

In his Wednesday speech, the NCP leader stated India was being made vegetarian. He said that 80% of the country’s population is non-vegetarian and Ramayana followers.
