Private Security Guards Victims of Exploitation: Purendra

Former Vice Chairman of Adityapur City Council Cites Labor Department’s Role

Private security agencies are facing severe exploitation issues, says RJD’s Purendra Narayan Singh.

JAMSHEDPUR – Purendra Narayan Singh, the former vice president of Adityapur Municipal Council and state general secretary of RJD, raised serious concerns over the exploitation of private security agencies.

Addressing a press conference, Singh highlighted the plight of security personnel working in industrial units and commercial institutions.

He pointed out that 90% of private security agencies fail to pay the minimum salary to their guards, while extracting 9-12 hours of work daily, instead of the standard 8 hours.

Singh emphasized the vulnerability of private security guards, who fear job loss and inability to find work elsewhere, deterring them from lodging complaints.

According to Singh, when complaints about minimum wages are raised, Labor Department officials often collude with agency owners and employers.

These officials, he claimed, compel complainants into compromising by navigating through legal complexities.

Singh noted that in most cases, the employers bear greater responsibility for the non-payment of minimum wages than the agencies themselves.

He stressed that employers often fail to pay appropriate wages and service charges to the agencies.

Demanding action, Singh called for a comprehensive investigation by government and labor department officials to ensure minimum wages for private security guards.

He also urged the government to take departmental action against Labor Department officials who neglect their duty to provide justice to these guards.

The press conference was also attended by Kumar Vipin Bihari Prasad, Dev Prakash, and advocate Sanjay Kumar.
