JAMSHEDPUR – Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the case of a life-threatening attack near DD Bar in the Bistupur police station area on the night of June 27. A Special Investigation Team, formed on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum, has arrested the case’s main accused, Rahul Dubey.
A sharp-edged weapon, described as a chapad, used in the attack was also recovered based on his disclosure.
City SP Lalit Meena said the attack took place near DD Bar around 11:30 pm on June 27 using a sharp weapon. Given the seriousness of the incident, the SIT was formed immediately. The team carried out continuous raids based on CCTV footage, technical evidence, human intelligence and other available proof.
However, 13 other named and unnamed accused in the case had already been arrested earlier and sent to judicial custody. Police were consistently raiding the possible hideouts of the remaining accused to nab them.
Meanwhile, amid mounting police pressure, the main accused, Rahul Dubey, was arrested from the Bistupur police station area. During interrogation, the chapad used in the attack was recovered on his disclosure.
Dubey is a resident of Block Number 4 in Shastrinagar, under the Kadma police station area. According to police, he has a prior criminal history and has previously been arrested and jailed in cases under the Arms Act, attempt to murder and other serious offences. He also has other cases registered against him, including one at Kadma police station.
Police said the search for the remaining absconding accused in the case is continuing, with the SIT carrying out raids without let-up.
The arrest comes days after three accused, including the DD Bar owner, were arrested in the related Himanshu Singh murder case. The prime accused in that case, Vishwanath Mandal alias Bodra, had earlier surrendered at the CGM court in Jamshedpur. BJP leader Neeraj Singh was also brought to Jamshedpur for questioning in connection with the case. Kolhan DIG had separately reviewed the investigation and issued orders for the early arrest of remaining absconding accused. An SIT had earlier arrested three people, including the bar manager, recovering a deadly weapon in the same case.
