CGPC Decides on City Kirtan Route, Introduces Strict Donation Guidelines
The CGPC meeting led to important decisions about the grand city kirtan for Guru Govind Singh Ji’s 357th birthday and stricter regulations on donations by institutions.
JAMSHEDPUR – A grand city kirtan is set to mark the 357th birthday of 10th Guru of Sikhs Shri Guru Govind Singh Ji on January 17, commencing from the Telco Gurdwara in Jamshedpur.
This decision, among others, was made in a meeting with representatives from various Gurdwaras under the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC).
In a significant move, the CGPC has decided to require local gurdwara committees’ permission for donations collected by various institutions from the Sangat, effective from January 1.
The meeting, chaired by CGPC Pradhan Bhagwan Singh, saw participation from representatives of Golpahari and Jemko Gurdwara committees.
While there was an initial proposal to have the city kirtan start from other locations, the unanimous decision supported the initiation from Telco Gurdwara.
The decision, backed by Chairman Gurmeet Singh, led to agreement on other organizational aspects of the city kirtan.
Another key topic, raised by Tara Singh of the Sonari Gurdwara, was the handling of funds by various institutions.
The committee resolved that only donations collected by Sikh Naujawan Sabha would be deemed appropriate.
For religious conferences, institutions must seek permission from the local Gurdwara Committee, and are required to provide a full account of the funds post-event.
Non-compliance may lead to a ban on future events.
Additionally, the taking out of small nagar kirtans at the local level was also disallowed, with this rule coming into effect from January 1.
Sardar Bhagwan Singh, Amarjeet Singh, and Sardar Shailendra Singh emphasized that any institution planning a religious conference must obtain approval from Akali Dal, Jamshedpur, Dharma Prachar Committee, Local Gurdwara Committee, or CGPC.
The meeting was attended by prominent community members including Principal Bhagwan Singh, Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh, Gurmeet Singh Tote, and others.
