Indian Railways’ Historic Freight Achievement in FY 2022-23
Indian Railways achieves a historical milestone with a record-breaking 1512 MT freight loading in FY 2022-23.
DESK – Indian Railways has marked a significant milestone by achieving its highest ever freight loading of 1512 Metric Tonnes (MT) in the financial year 2022-23.
This feat represents the national transporter’s most considerable achievement since independence, surpassing the previous year’s record.
In FY 2021-22, the freight loading was 1418 MT, indicating a notable incremental loading of 94 MT.
Examining the past six financial years, a consistent growth pattern emerges.
In FY 2017-18, the freight loading was 1161 MT, followed by a gradual increase each year, culminating in the record-breaking 1512 MT in the previous fiscal year.
This consistent increase highlights 31 straight months of best-ever monthly freight loading, starting from September 2020.
A significant contributor to this performance is the Indian Railways‘ focus on coal supply to powerhouses nationwide, in collaboration with the Ministry of Power and Coal.
Last year alone, coal loading grew by 84 MT compared to FY 2021-22.
Additionally, there has been a remarkable upsurge in automobile loading.
In FY 2022-23, a total of 5527 rakes were loaded, a 65% increase from 3344 rakes in the previous year.
Looking ahead to FY 2023-24, Indian Railways has already loaded 758.20 MT in the first two quarters, improving by approximately 21.52 MT over the same period last year.
In the first half of FY 2022-23, the freight performance was 736.68 MT.
These figures underscore Indian Railways’ ongoing commitment to enhancing freight transportation, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth.
