Geeta Theatre’s Nukkad Natak Brings Hard-Hitting Social Message against Drug Abuse

Under the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan", Geeta Theatre delivers a powerful play on the pernicious impacts of drug addiction on individuals and their families.

JAMSHEDPUR – As part of the government’s "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" (Drug-Free India Campaign), Geeta Theatre, a renowned Nukkad Natak (street corner plays) company, presented a compelling play titled "Nasha Karein Naash" (Addiction Leads to Destruction).

Directed by Piyush Sinha, the Deputy Controller for Civil Defence and guided by the SDO, Dhalbhum, the play was performed by Civil Defence Jamshedpur and commenced at Bhuinadih’s Chhaya Nagar.

The narrative of the drama revolves around a wealthy young man who introduces a less fortunate peer to drugs for his own advantage, thereby pushing both towards the path of addiction.

This descent into addiction showcases the distressing impact it has on not only the individuals but also their families, particularly the impoverished boy’s mother who is heartbroken at her son’s condition.

In a turning point, a Civil Defence Inspector intervenes, educating them about the perils of addiction and emphasizing the importance of a drug-free society.

The actors of Geeta Theatre, through their compelling performances, effectively communicate the devastating consequences of addiction.

As the play concludes, the actors collectively vow to refrain from drug usage and inspire others to do the same.

Notable attendees of the play included Civil Defence representatives Suresh Prasad, Divisional Warden Balwant Singh, and volunteers Nagendra Kumar, Uttam Chakraborty, and Taher Hussain from Hind IIT.

Among the standout performances from the young actors of Geeta Theatre were Geeta Kumari, who portrayed the agonized mother, Tushar Karan, who enacted the role of the affluent young man, Abhiranjan Kumar as the impoverished youth, and Prem Dixit as the Civil Defence Officer.
