Workshop Held on World Snake Day by Renowned Rescuer Sudipta Dey in Jamshedpur

Sudipta Dey, a renowned snake rescuer, shares his experiences and educates on snakebite prevention at a workshop held in Jamshedpur on World Snake Day.

JAMSHEDPUR – A workshop was organized at Bhuiandih Kalindi Bhavan in Jamshedpur on Sunday to commemorate World Snake Day. Famed snake rescuer Sudipta Dey, also known as Bapi, was the key speaker at the event where he shared his experiences with the city’s snake catcher rescue team members.

World Snake Day is a global initiative to encourage the protection and preservation of snakes.

In the workshop at Kalindi Bhawan, Bapi discussed new techniques of snake-catching and snakebite prevention with local snake rescuers.

He also urged the forest department to provide financial aid to the city’s snake catchers to boost their morale.

In his address, Bapi pointed out the high annual death toll from snakebites in the country, standing at approximately 50,000. Attributing this to a lack of knowledge, he detailed the symptoms of snakebite patients, noting that some deaths result from medical negligence and are mistakenly categorized as snakebite fatalities. Not all snakes are venomous, he emphasized, and underlined the importance of snakes in the production of effective medicines for diseases like cancer and in the creation of snakebite antidotes.

Bapi, a railway worker, revealed that the country’s first snakebite hospital in Gomo, Dhanbad, is nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated.

He assured that treatment at this hospital will be provided free of charge to snakebite victims.

He concluded by urging the public to recognize the symptoms of snakebite and act appropriately to save lives and protect snakes.
