An investigative team has been constituted to address silicosis risks among laborers working on stone crusher machines without sufficient safety measures in place. This group will be led by District Child Protection Officer Dr. Chanchal Kumari and Labor Superintendent, amongst other officers.
JAMSHEDPUR – Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav expressed serious concerns over the prevalence of silicosis, a lung disease, among workers in the district.
In response, she has constituted an investigative team to probe the conditions of laborers working on stone crusher machines without adequate safety measures.
The team will comprise the District Child Protection Officer Dr. Chanchal Kumari, the Labor Superintendent, and several other officers.
The issue came up during a District Coordination Committee meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium on Thursday, where it was discussed that child laborers are also employed in stone crusher operations.
As a result, the committee decided to launch an investigation. Jadhav urged workers to adopt sufficient safety measures to safeguard their health and, following an examination of child labor conditions, issued instructions for necessary action against any guilty parties.
The meeting also addressed the smooth implementation of various departmental schemes, including those related to health, employment generation, pension, livestock, Panchayat Raj, MNREGA, housing, women and child development, agriculture, and supplies.
In addition, the Deputy Commissioner ordered a review of medical resources at Community Health Centers (CHCs) and other health facilities to strengthen the healthcare system.
She also requested to ensure the availability of anti-snake venom and to use bleaching powder in wells given the onset of the rainy season.
The meeting was attended by DDC Manish Kumar, Dhalbhum SDM Piyush Sinha, DRDA Director Saurabh Sinha, NEP Director Jyotsna Singh, ADC Jaideep Tigga, DSO Rajeev Ranjan, SOR Deepu Kumar, DTO Dinesh Ranjan, Ghatshila SDM Satyaveer Rajak, DPO Arun Dwivedi, DPRO Rohit Kumar, among other officials.
