Yoga, particularly Ashtanga Yoga, is a medium through which the entire world can be unified, bringing peace and harmony to all, says Anand Marg Sanyasi.
JAMSHEDPUR – Anandmargi expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister for acknowledging the importance of Yoga globally.
There had been a long-standing struggle to establish Yoga in society as it was often neglected and deemed as the mere practice of saints and sages.
Promoting Yoga within the community, therefore, presented various challenges.
On the 9th ‘International Day of Yoga‘, a yoga session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York saw enthusiastic participation.
The attendees underscored the critical role of this ancient method in ensuring health, well-being, harmony, and peace.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga, organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in collaboration with the UN Secretariat, was: Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The world is one family).
Acharya Abhiramanand Avdhoot and Acharya Shankaranand Avdhoot, who are representatives of Anand Marg Pracharak Sangh and expounders of yoga practice abroad from Anand Marg, partook in the event.
Acharya Abhiramanand Avdhoot, the General Secretary, stressed that Ashtanga Yoga is the sole pathway towards worldwide peace and a means to unify the world.
He believes that society should strive towards positive thinking and alleviating worries, thus making global peace attainable.
He stated that Yoga is the spiritual practice that helps humans to connect with the divine, highlighting its pivotal role in human realization and evolution.
Yoga’s foundation, laid by Lord Sadashiv, was followed by Lord Shri Krishna’s teachings in Gita, and then by Maharishi Patanjali’s Ashtanga yoga method for human welfare.
The method includes eight branches of yoga: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
Anand Marg’s Yog Sadhana incorporates the yoga methods given by Lord Shiva and Maharishi Patanjali, encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual development.
