Delegation of Evicted Mango Shopkeepers Seeks MLA Saryu Roy’s Help

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy today assured the evicted shopkeepers of Mango that he would not allow the Mango Municipal Corporation authorities to resort to any discrepancy in shop allotment.

He told them that if any outside intervention during the shop allotment process is tried in an undue manner, he would oppose it and, if needed, he would even seek the judiciary’s help.

A delegation of shopkeepers of Mango Chowk, who were evicted during the recent anti-encroachment drive in Mango, met with MLA Saryu Roy to request assistance with their livelihood after being evicted from their shops due to charges of land encroachment.

The shopkeepers accused Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) authorities of preparing a list of persons who are favorites of the Minister, leading to an unfair allotment of shops.

MLA Saryu Roy listened to the delegation’s concerns and assured them that he would personally fight on their behalf.

He assured them that any violation of rules in the allotment of shops would not be tolerated and that if the administration violates the provisions of the Street Vendors Act of 2014, the matter will go to court and the state government.

Roy noted that the administration had violated the terms of the Act of 2014 when the shopkeepers were evicted and their establishments were pulled down.

In addition to addressing the shop allotment issue, MLA Saryu Roy also discussed the need for construction of drinking water facilities, toilets, and vehicle parking spots prior to allocating stalls to evicted shopkeepers.

He suggested that organized markets could be set up in different areas in Mango and that he would hold discussions with the Urban Development Department on this issue.

Roy also recommended that the MMC Executive Officer convene a meeting of the Vendors’ Committee as per the Street Vendors Act, 2014, so that shops could be duly allotted to appropriate persons.

He demanded that shops be allotted on a priority basis to those who were ejected from the Mango Main Road divider and had vendor certificates and cards issued by the MMC.
