A grooming case has come to light from Madhya Pradesh in which Sheikh Jahid has been accused of duping her by posing as a Brahmin for about 8 years. She has also alleged that he forced her to consume beef and embrace Islam.
PC: Subhi Vishwakarma Twitter account Jahid was arrested by MP police on October 26 under the state’s anti-love jihad law for duping the woman by hiding his religious identity. The victim said Jahid had introduced himself as a Brahmin to establish a sexual relationship with her. Based on her complaint, police registered an FIR against the accused and his brother Sajid.
Reports say the incident occurred in Shujalpur in MP’s Shajapur District. The victim said she met Jahid 14 years ago when he identified himself as Gama belonging to the Brahmin community. She was divorced from her first husband when she came in contact with the accused. She stayed in Bhopal’s Karaund area at a relative’s residence and was employed with Airtel.
What began as a friendship, later developed into love and the accused established a physical relationship by promising to marry her. He raped her for more than seven years during the course of which she became pregnant.
Following her pregnancy, she asked the accused to marry him when she came to know of his true religious identity from the original papers submitted by Jahid during their court marriage. She learned he was a Muslim resident of the Dabripura region of MP’s Shajapur district.
The complaint highlights, the victim chose to remain silent back then due to her pregnancy. However, after their marriage and the child’s birth, Jahid began torturing the woman. He pressured her to convert to Islam and forced her to consume meat and offer namaz. When she refused to comply with his demands, he brutally thrashed her.
The victim also said she had tried to escape once but was unsuccessful. “I was fed up with day-to-day harassment. One day, I packed my bag and left Jahid’s house. But he forcefully brought me back. He then started bringing other girls home to have sexual relations with them after I used to leave for my office”, she has been quoted as saying.
The victim approached Hindu organizations with whose help she registered a police complaint. Members of Hindu organizations demanded strict action against Jahid. Both Jahid and his brother Sajid have been booked under the relevant sections of the law by the police. While Jahid has been arrested, the police are on the lookout for Sajid who is absconding. The police said that further investigations into the case were underway.
