Silent rally in Sakchi to protest Stan Swamy’s death

Jamshedpur: A number of people gathered and took out a silent rally in Sakchi on Thursday to protest the death of Stanisiaus Lourduswamy popularly known as Stan Swamy.

Stan Swamy, 84-year-old Jesuit priest, died last Monday while being treated in a Mumbai hospital. He was an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case. He was admitted to Holy Family hospital in Mumbai where he was undergoing treatment following a court order on May 28.

Several opposition leaders, including the former Congress president Rahul Gandhi had condoled his death and blamed government for his death.

The silent rally in protest of Stan Swamy’s death started from Sakchi Round-about and went around Sakchi.

The citizens participating in the rally blamed the union government and said that it had failed in doing justice to an 84-year-old tribal activist. They said that there is anger against inhuman treatment to the activist in the entire country.

The protestors also demanded scrapping of the anti-terror law i.e. Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
