Nothing lovey-dovey about Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about marketing and needless fluff. It has nothing to do with love and compassion or camaraderie.

It is a symbol of foolishness of young people and those who have no trust in logic and facts.

Historical facts about Valentine’s Day are enough to cause a shocking revulsion in anyone’s mind, especially someone from India who has more pious days to celebrate love and compassion like Karwa Chauth or Raksha Bandhan or Bhaiya Dooj or Bhai Phota or Teej or jivitputrika festivals.

Most young people who greet one another on valentine day are not aware of some of the stark historical facts relating to Valentine’s Day.

According to @BharadwajSpeaks Twitter handle: “He (Saint Valentine) was a Christian Bishop and a physician.” He adds: “He refused to treat his own fatally sick mother because she would not give up her belief in pagan God Jupiter and get baptized. The disease killed her!”

The Hindu polytheist young men and women who are so happy celebrating Valentine’s Day are not aware that St Valentine was described as “destroyer of non Christian pagan idols” too.

@BharadwajSpeaks adds: “Valentine was abusing Non-Christian Gods & creating communal conflict.”

Twitter handle and popular history buff @BhardwajSpeaks has brought out many historical facts about Valentine’s Day, which are largely unknown to the young people who are so fond of Valentine’s Day and the immense marketing done around it by the proselytisers.

For those who are more curious, the real facts about Valentine’s day are scattered all over the internet- here, here and here.

Most of these accounts indicate that the day has more of blood and religion than love and compassion. None of the historical stories relating to Valentine Day are associated with pure love. All indicate that the day was earlier a pagan festival and may have later been adopted by Christian world.
