Jamshedpur: A youth, identified as Anup Kumar Surekha alias Pappu Marwari, was today shot dead near Birsa Chowk under the jurisdiction of Ulidih police station in Mango.
The person accused of murder tried to escape after shooting at the deceased, but the locals caught him and thrashed him black and blue and later handed him over to the police. The accused is injured too and is being treated at MGMCH now.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at 6 p.m. Saturday near Birsa Chowk under the jurisdiction of Ulidih police station in Mango.
Locals say that the deceased Anup Kumar Sureka alias Pappu Marwari was standing near Birsa Chowk. Meanwhile, Sanatan Lohar arrived there and had an altercation with him. After a while, he allegedly shot him dead.
According to locals, the accused tried to escape after firing at the deceased, but the locals nabbed him and later thrashed him.
The locals also rushed injured Pappu Marwari to MGMCH, but he died there. The locals also handed over the accused Sanatan Lohar to the police.
In an attempt to nab the accused, another youth Richa Kalindi too sustained injuries in head. He too was treated at MGMCH.
Later, Richa Kalindi said that Pappu Marwari was shot and the killer tried to escape. He chased him. The accused also threatened him and tried to fire at him, but nothing happened and he understood that there was no bullet in the pistol. Then, he nabbed him despite assault on himself with the butt of the pistol.
Police said that Pappu Marwari was shot dead in connection with an old enmity.
The locals say that there was a dispute between the deceased and the accused over gambling and the latter was loking for an opportunity to take revenge.
The City SP Subhas Chandra Jat confirmed that a youth Pappu Marwari alias Anup Kumar Sureka was shot dead and the accused is being interrogated.
