Senior Tata Steel UISL Supervisor Suicide Case: FIR Against 2 Senior Officers

Case filed against department chief and manager for alleged work pressure

Work overload cited as reason in suicide note found at Golmuri office premises

JAMSHEDPUR – A case has been registered following the death of Om Prakash Sahu, a senior supervisor at TATA Steel UISL, who took his own life at his workplace.

The Golmuri police station has filed a case against Dr. Alok Kumar, Departmental Chief of Public Health at TATA Steel UISL, and the Area Manager.

The complaint alleges that Sahu’s suicide was a result of excessive work pressure and stress imposed by the accused.

“My father had been struggling with an overwhelming workload for months,” stated Pushpendra Kumar, the deceased’s 30-year-old son.

Incident Details

Sahu, 56, was found deceased in his office at Workers Flat No. 102 in Golmuri on Wednesday.

A cleaning staff member discovered the body and alerted authorities.

Police recovered a suicide note from Sahu’s shirt pocket, citing work-related stress as the primary reason for his actions.

The note mentioned Sahu’s responsibilities spanning multiple areas:

– Four clusters in Baridih

– Sidhgora

– Old and New Baridih

– Baridih EMC

Allegations of Neglect

According to the suicide note, Sahu had repeatedly expressed concerns about his workload to superiors.

“He shared his struggles with the Chief, Alok sir, and the Area Manager, but no one listened,” Pushpendra Kumar explained.

Sahu reportedly discussed his situation with colleagues, who agreed he was overburdened.

Legal Proceedings

The case has been registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 2023 for abetment to suicide.

Section 108 reads: “If any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.”

Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sahu’s death.

Company Response

TATA Steel UISL officials and union representatives, including Raghunath Pandey, president of the JUSCO Workers’ Union, arrived at the scene.

Final Request

In his note, Sahu expressed gratitude to colleagues “Ojha ji” and “Binod ji” for their support.

He concluded with a plea: “Sir, please forgive me. I request the Chief to ensure my wife receives any dues owed to me.”

In a statement, Tata Steel UISL had said: “The company is with the aggrieved family and is providing all support as per company policy. As a responsible corporate, TSISL is committed to the safety and well-being of all its stakeholders.”
