All eyes on Bihar election results as several city stalwarts too try luck in fray

City watching keenly outcomes for A P Singh, Subhanand Mukesh, Prof Javed Iqbal Ansari, Ramesh Kumar and Rajkumari Devi

Jamshedpur: All eyes are now affixed on election results emanating from Election Commission as counting has begun in Bihar. While, RJD and Congress combine are hopeful that the voters would show trust in Tejaswi Yadav, NDA supporters feel that the results would go in their favour.

Bihar election results are going to prove important for several political personalities linked with the steel city too.

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy’s party Bharatiya Jan Morcha too is trying its luck in Bihar elections and therefore even in Jharkhand people are waiting eagerly for the first results emanating from Bihar.

Bihar elections have been completed in three phases and now the counting has begun at most centres too at 8 a.m. according to the prescheduled plan.

Owing to the special corona protocol the election counting process is likely to be slower than normal. Therefore, first results are expected around noon.

Jamshedpur has had a direct connection with the Bihar Assembly elections. Several leaders are not only contesting elections, but a large number of people from the city had even gone to Bihar to take part in election campaigning too.

The top among such leaders is Amarendra Pratap Singh, who has worked as the president of East Singhbhum BJP for a long time. In the middle of 1990s, he changed his location and migrated to Bihar politics. Later, he was also elected as the MLA from Aarah. He was also the Deputy Speaker of the assembly from 2012–2015.

In 2015 elections, he lost the elections by a thin margin.

In 2020, BJP has again fielded him from the same constituency. He would be fighting against CPI (ML) candidate.

Another politician from Jamshedpur trying his luck in Bihar Assembly elections is Shubhanand Mukesh. He is contesting elections from Kahalgaon seat in Bhagalpur district as a Congress candidate. He is the head of Environment Department in Tata Steel and has taken leave to contest elections.

Subhanand Mukesh’s father Sadanand Singh is one of the senior Congress leaders and he has worked as minister and was even the Assembly Speaker in Bihar.

Sadanand Singh has a record of winning Kahalgaon seat nine times. This time, instead of contesting elections, he has fielded his son on Congress ticket.

On the other hand, Prof Javed Iqbal Ansari from Mango too is trying his luck from Banka. He is also a lecturer in Workers’ College. His results would also be watched closely by people of Jamshedpur.

On the other hand, Ramesh Kumar of Burmamines is contesting elections on Brahmpur Assembly constituency. He hails from Dumri village under the jurisdiction of Simri police station. Brahmpur has a large population of Bhumihar community. Ramesh Kumar hopes that this time around he would win the support of his community. Even in 2015 he had tried his luck, but had failed to win the seat.

On the other hand, Rajkumari Devi, who has been associated with left politics in Jamshedpur for a long time, is contesting the Digha seat in Patna as a CPI (ML) candidate on behalf of Mahagathbandhan.

On the other hand, Saryu Rai too has returned after having campaigned on several seats. It would be interesting to see how many of those candidates manage to win for whom he has campaigned this time.
