Worker dies as staircase collapses during house demolition work in Jugsalai

Jamshedpur: A worker was crushed to death at Jugsalai Patnahiya Mohalla during civil construction work. The staircase collapsed on him and he was crushed under it resulting in his instant death.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Arif, a resident of Jugsalai Garib Nawaz Colony.

Sources said that civil construction work was being carried out in a house in Patnahiya Mohalla in Jugsalai. During the construction work the cement staircase suddenly broke and collapsed. The staircase was being demolished for further construction.

The worker was crushed under the weight of the staircase and he died instantly. The police arrived at the site and the dead body was taken out after a lot of effort. The dead body was sent for post mortem. A case is also being registered in this connection.

The family members of the deceased are demanding compensation from the contractor, because he was the only earning member of his family.

Soon a large number of locals assembled at the site of occurrence and demanded compensation to the family of the deceased.

After eliciting assurance of compensation the dead body was allowed to be taken for last rites.
