Jharkhand Battles Human Trafficking, Naxal Challenges

NCRB Report Reveals High Human Trafficking Cases in Jharkhand

Jharkhand’s fight against human trafficking intensifies, with 168 children victimized in 2022, as per the National Crime Records Bureau report.

RANCHI – Jharkhand faces a severe challenge with human trafficking, in addition to ongoing Naxal activities, as revealed by the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report.

In 2022, 43 boys and 125 girls fell prey to trafficking in the state, with a majority, 129, being minors, highlighting the heightened risk to children.

The report showed varied motives behind these trafficking cases, including 90 instances of forced labor, two of sexual exploitation and prostitution, 57 of domestic slavery, one forced marriage, and two other unspecified reasons.

Jharkhand’s Anti Human Trafficking Units (AHT Units), present in each of its 24 districts, have played a pivotal role in combating this issue, registering a total of 100 cases in 2022.

Thanks to proactive law enforcement efforts, there have been significant rescue operations, resulting in the liberation of 33 boys and 80 girls under 18, and 10 boys and 29 girls aged 18 and above.

Overall, 43 boys and 109 girls have been rescued from human traffickers, marking a critical step in addressing this grave human rights issue.
