Prime Minister Narendra Modi greets citizens on Chhath Puja as devotees prepare to bow to Surya Dev
JAMSHEDPUR – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Chhath Puja.
The festival, widely celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, began on Saturday with ‘Kharna.
Modi’s message highlighted the festival’s potential to bring new energy and enthusiasm to people’s lives and also its significance in the lives of people from North India as well as those living in other states.
Chhath Puja festivities will continue with ‘Arghya’ on Sunday.
Devotees are set to take a holy dip in nearby ghats around sunset, followed by another at sunrise on Monday.
Sheetal Devi from Bagbera, living in the city for over two decades, shared her excitement about the festival.
Families like hers celebrate Chhath with traditional food and new clothes.
Most of the bastis and settlements have been cleaned and wear a new look during the Chhath festivals and there is an air of religiosity everywhere in the city.
Another devotee appreciated the inclusive and festive atmosphere in the city during Chhath.
Chhath Puja is a homage to the Sun God, celebrated on the sixth day after Diwali.
The festival’s rituals, performed near water bodies, symbolize thanksgiving and seeking blessings.
