Departmental action initiated against Chandil Block Labor Enforcement Officer Haradhan Bhumij

Seraikela: The process of departmental action has been started against Chandil’s Block Labor Enforcement Officer (LEO) Haradhan Bhumij for alleged negligence in census work. Taking the matter seriously, Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh has directed the Circle Officer of Chandil to prepare and file Form ‘A’ against Haradhan Bhumij. On the basis of this, recommendation for departmental action will be sent to the concerned department.

Action taken after BDO’s complaint

The case started with the complaint of the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Chandil. BDO had sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner on May 20 alleging that Haradhan Bhumij is not taking the required interest in the census work of national importance and is not discharging its responsibilities properly. Considering the complaint as serious, the Deputy Commissioner had sought clarification from the Labor Enforcement Officer.

However, the clarification submitted to the Deputy Commissioner did not provide a clear answer to the allegations related to census work by Haradhan Bhumij. The administration considered it an attempt to avoid responsibility and declared it unsatisfactory. The Deputy Commissioner has said in his order that this attitude of the officer shows indifference towards duty, gross negligence and indiscipline.

Negligence in census work is considered a serious matter

The Deputy Commissioner has mentioned in his order that under paragraph 8 of Circular-16 of Census 2027 and related provisions, negligence in works of national importance like census is unforgivable. In such cases, it is necessary to take legal action against the concerned officer.

Under this, the Circle Officer of Chandil has been instructed to prepare a charge sheet in the prescribed form and send it to the concerned department, so that the process of punitive action can be taken forward as per the rules.

Increased commotion in the administrative department

After the strict stance of the Deputy Commissioner and instructions for departmental action, the stir has increased among the officers and employees at the block and zonal level. The administration has clearly indicated that any kind of negligence or indifference in important tasks like census will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
