Swarnarekha River Pollution Kills Thousands of Fish

Toxic Waste Suspected as Stench Spreads Across Areas

Key Points:

  • Thousands of fish found dead in Swarnarekha River
  • Water discoloration and foul smell alarm residents
  • Saryu Roy orders probe into pollution source

JAMSHEDPUR – Toxic pollution in the Swarnarekha River has killed thousands of fish and caused severe foul smell across nearby areas.

The Jamshedpur stretch of the river saw sudden contamination. The water reportedly turned toxic within days.

However, thousands of fish were seen floating dead. Meanwhile, many carcasses piled along the banks.

In addition, several fish had begun decomposing rapidly. This worsened the smell across nearby settlements.

Residents reported strong odor in recent days. They also noticed a visible change in water color.

Soon after, fish deaths began suddenly. The situation deteriorated rapidly across stretches.

Locals blamed nearby industrial discharge for the incident. They alleged untreated chemical waste was released directly.

Moreover, such discharge can severely impact aquatic ecosystems. It can also pose long-term health risks.

Meanwhile, MLA Saryu Roy visited the affected site. He reviewed the ground situation closely.

He reprimanded concerned officials at the spot. He also directed a detailed investigation immediately.

Furthermore, he called it a serious public health concern. He warned of strict action against those responsible.

At present, authorities have collected water samples. These samples have been sent for testing.

Meanwhile, anger among residents continues to rise. They are demanding swift and strict action.

In contrast, environmental concerns around the river have surfaced again. Questions are being raised over pollution control failures.
