JAMSHEDPUR – Rail services on the Ranchi-Rourkela section came to a halt after ten wagons of a freight train derailed near Kanawara railway station in Simdega district late Tuesday night.

The accident occurred between poles 524/35 and 524/33, falling under Bano block of Simdega district. The derailed wagons caused major damage to both up and down tracks, disrupting traffic across the busy route.

According to officials, the goods train was heading from Rourkela to Ranchi when the derailment took place. Three to four wagons suffered severe damage, and the track alignment was also affected.

However, no casualties were reported in the mishap. “It was a relief that no one was injured. Restoration teams have reached the site,” said a railway official engaged in the rescue operation.

Railway Protection Force personnel and Bano police reached the spot soon after receiving the information. The teams began clearance and track repair operations immediately to restore movement on the route.

Meanwhile, several passenger and freight trains faced disruption. Some services were short-terminated, while others were diverted through alternative routes. Railway authorities confirmed that partial schedule adjustments were made for multiple trains on the affected line.

Work is in progress to re-lay the damaged tracks, and officials expect partial resumption of traffic once the debris is cleared and safety checks are completed.
