RANCHI – Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Seraikela, Champai Soren, voiced grave concerns about escalating Bangladeshi infiltration in the Santhal Pargana region, following a meeting today with Mandal Murmu, a descendant of Jharkhand’s freedom fighters Sido and Kanhu.
Soren expressed sorrow over the shifting demographics in Bhognadih, the revered land of Jharkhand’s tribal heroes, where the tribal population now numbers fewer than 500, while infiltrators have multiplied significantly.
He questioned how, despite the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act, which restricts land ownership, thousands of outsiders have managed to settle and occupy lands in the area, hinting at government negligence.
Soren criticized policies that offer benefits to infiltrators without verification, urging locals to identify these groups and resist the erosion of tribal rights and cultural identity.
He emphasized that the survival of Santhal Pargana’s indigenous communities depends on taking firm action to prevent further encroachment, warning that if left unchecked, tribals in areas like Pakur and Rajmahal could become a minority in their own homeland.
