Noel Tata Appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts, Succeeds Late Ratan Tata

JAMSHEDPUR – Noel Naval Tata has been named the new Chairman of Tata Trusts following the passing of the iconic industrialist Ratan Tata.

In a meeting held in Mumbai on Friday, Tata Trusts and its associated trusts formally mourned Ratan Tata’s death, recognizing his contributions to both the Tata Group and the nation.

Noel Tata, who had grown close to Ratan Tata in recent years, will now take over as Chairman of Tata Trusts, which holds a 52% stake in Tata Sons.

In a statement after his appointment, Noel Tata expressed his deep honor at being entrusted with this responsibility by his fellow trustees.

He reaffirmed his commitment to carrying forward the legacy of Ratan Tata and the group’s founders, focusing on continuing the Trusts’ philanthropic and developmental work.

Established over a century ago, Tata Trusts is integral to the Tata Group, which has an estimated worth of $165 billion (₹30 lakh crore).

Noel Tata, 67, has been involved with the Tata Group for four decades and holds positions on the boards of several Tata companies, including Trent, Titan, and Tata Steel, where he serves as Vice Chairman.

The Tata Trusts board consists of 13 trustees, including prominent figures like Vijay Singh, Venu Srinivasan, Meher Mistry, and Darius Khambata. Noel Tata was unanimously chosen as Chairman by a majority vote.

Noel Tata, the son of Ratan Tata’s father Naval Tata and his second wife Simone, is married to Aloo Mistry, the sister of the late Cyrus Mistry. The couple has three children: Maya, Leah, and Neville Tata.
