Tata Steel to Host 4th Special Abled Chess Championship

Inclusive Event to Showcase Talent of Differently Abled Players

National-level tournament promotes diversity and accessibility in chess community.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel is set to organize the 4th All India FIDE Rated Special Abled Chess Championship from June 24 to 28, 2024, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

The event aims to provide a platform for differently abled chess players across India to demonstrate their skills.

"We expect around 65 players from 14 states to participate in this inclusive championship," a Tata Steel spokesperson announced.

This tournament follows the successful Asian Junior Open and Girls Chess Championship held at the same venue last year.

Tata Steel’s involvement in chess dates back to 1989 when it established its first Chess Training Centre in Jamshedpur.

The company’s Chess Training Centre has nurtured over 4,000 students, some as young as three and a half years old.

"Hati," Tata Steel’s chess mascot symbolizing strategy and wisdom, will continue to inspire competitors.

The championship organizers expressed gratitude to Mr. Thipsey, Bharat Chouhan, and Jharkhand Association officials for their guidance.

This event underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the chess community.

The company aims to create an inclusive experience celebrating the talent and determination of specially abled chess enthusiasts.

Tata Steel’s longstanding support for chess reflects its dedication to fostering intellectual pursuits and strategic thinking.
