Four Players Share Lead After Intense Fifth Round

The 4th All India FIDE Specially Abled Chess Championship 2024 continues to captivate audiences at JRD Tata Sports Complex, with fierce competition among top contenders.

JAMSHEDPUR – The fifth round of the All India FIDE Specially Abled Chess Championship saw Deputy Superintendent of Police, Anjani Tiwari, inaugurate proceedings with the ceremonial first move.

"It’s inspiring to see such talent and determination among these players," Tiwari remarked, wishing participants success in the upcoming rounds.

The day’s highlight was a strategic draw between joint leaders Naveen Kumar and Venkata Krishna Karthik, both from Andhra Pradesh, in a 46-move game on board one.

Former champion Samarth Rao of Karnataka triumphed over Tamil Nadu’s Kannan on board two, while Uttar Pradesh’s Nabhneel Das defeated Telangana’s Parmarthi in a 50-move battle on board three.

Delhi’s Vaibhav Gautam secured a swift victory against Tamil Nadu’s Senthilmurugan in just 34 moves on board four.

"The competition is intensifying with each round," noted a tournament organizer. "We’re seeing exceptional chess played across all boards."

Current leaders with 4.5 points include Kumar, Krishna, Rao, and Das. Close behind with 4 points are Gautam, Shakaramakrishnan, Jagdish, and Aditya Asaram.

As part of the event’s cultural program, players visited the Centre for Excellence (CFE), gaining insights into Jamshedpur’s history and Tata Steel’s legacy.

The tournament continues to showcase the remarkable skills of specially abled chess players from across India.
