Jugsalai Sanitation Workers Halt Work Over Unpaid Wages and Long Hours

Garbage Collection Workers in Jugsalai Protest Against Contract Company for Delayed Salaries and Overwork

Sanitation workers in Jugsalai Municipal Council have stopped work, protesting unpaid wages and extended work hours imposed by Cube Adityapur Waste Management Private Limited.

JAMSHEDPUR – In Jugsalai Municipal Council, garbage collection workers have ceased operations due to grievances over unpaid wages and extended working hours.

Workers allege that their contractor company managing the service had promised drivers a post-deduction salary of Rs 14,300 from a gross of Rs 16,000, but they are being paid only Rs 13,000.

Similarly, workers said that they expected Rs 10,900 from a promised Rs 12,600, yet they receive just Rs 9,500.

Moreover, the workers are not receiving their salaries on time, they alleged.

Instead of working from 6 am to 2 pm, they are forced to work until 4 pm, facing threats of dismissal when they protest.

Frustrated by these conditions, sanitation worker Tinku Mukhi stated that 10 drivers and 30 employees responsible for garbage collection have halted their work entirely.

This stoppage has pushed the sanitation system of the Jugsalai Municipal Council area to the brink of collapse.

The workers declared that their strike will continue until their demands are addressed.

The interruption in garbage collection has caused concern among local residents about potential health hazards.

Community members are urging the authorities to resolve the issue promptly to avoid further disruption.

The company’s failure to meet its contractual obligations and pay timely wages has drawn criticism from various quarters.

Local leaders and residents have called for immediate intervention to restore the sanitation services and ensure fair treatment of the workers.

The sanitation workers have vowed to maintain their agitation until their rightful wages are paid and working conditions are improved.
