In a tragic incident in Lohardaga, a policeman shot dead Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Dharmendra Singh. The accused surrendered after ten and a half hours, causing further turmoil.

LOHARDAGA – A shocking incident unfolded late Wednesday night in Lohardaga when a policeman, identified as Anand Singh Munda, shot and killed Assistant Sub Inspector Dharmendra Singh.

The incident occurred behind the Lohardaga SP Kothi.

Anand Singh Munda, a resident of Birdih under Sonahatu police station in Ranchi district, was living in a rented house behind the SP Kothi.

The deceased, Dharmendra Singh, hailed from Bokaro.

The accused, believed to be mentally ill, lived in a rented house with his family who had recently joined him for the summer vacation.

On the night of the incident, Munda had locked his wife and children inside the house, prompting his wife to seek help from other policemen in the building.

As Dharmendra Singh and other officers were assisting Munda’s wife, Munda opened fire, fatally wounding Singh.

The family of the deceased policeman became enraged during the arrest of Munda and attempted to assault him.

The Lohardaga police confirmed the details of the incident, noting that Munda had recently returned from election duty in various districts including Giridih, Dumka, Bokaro, and Lohardaga.

Munda had not returned his service rifle, which he used in the shooting.

An official remarked, "This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for addressing mental health issues within the police force."

The entire episode has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising questions about mental health support for law enforcement members.
