Key Points:

  • Pappu Sardar of Jamshedpur marks 29 years of celebrating Madhuri Dixit’s birthday
  • Sparsh Creative Academy children enthrall audience with Bollywood dance performances
  • Over 50 senior media persons felicitated at the event in Sakchi Bazaar

JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day celebration of Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit’s birthday was organised at Sakchi Bazaar by Pappu Sardar, who has been marking the occasion every year for the last 29 years.

The event on Thursday evening drew a festival-like atmosphere. Children from Sparsh Creative Academy performed colourful dance numbers on Madhuri Dixit’s popular songs. Their energetic performances held the audience’s attention well past midnight.

However, the cultural dimension was not limited to dance alone. A team from ISKCON led Hare Ram-Hare Krishna kirtan and conducted religious rituals. The devotional atmosphere spread through the entire venue.

The programme began with a puja of Lord Ganesha. Pandit Santosh Kumar Tripathi performed the rituals. Meanwhile, Pappu Sardar participated in the role of yajman, or the host of the puja. Prayers were offered for Madhuri Dixit’s long life and good health.

Following the puja, a felicitation ceremony was held. More than 50 senior media persons of the city were honoured on the occasion. On the other hand, a grand cake-cutting ceremony at around 11.30 pm marked the birthday celebration formally. The venue had been decorated attractively, resembling a puja pandal.

Among the highlights of the first day was a selfie craze, particularly among women and young girls gathered at the venue. Jamshedpur witnessed the event as a landmark occasion in its cultural calendar.

Madhuri Dixit, born on May 15, 1967, is one of Bollywood’s most celebrated actresses. She is famously known as the “Dhak-Dhak girl” of Hindi cinema and has starred in dozens of iconic films over four decades.

On the second day — Friday — the programme was set to include a visit to the Cheshire Home in Karndih. Persons with disabilities residing there were to be served a meal and given gifts. In addition, free chaat distribution was planned for the general public in the evening. A free merry-go-round for children was also arranged on the footpath along the road.

The organisers received support from well-wishers across the city, as has been the tradition every year. Pappu Sardar’s unique devotion to the actress has earned him international recognition over the years. The celebration at Sakchi has become one of the city’s most talked-about annual cultural events. This year’s edition also featured a religious and cultural convergence with the ISKCON kirtan adding a devotional flair. The community spirit on display at the event was noted by those present.
