JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand Vasi Ekta Manch hosted a spectacular Tusu Mela at Bistupur’s historic Gopal Maidan, drawing thousands of enthusiasts who celebrated Jharkhandi culture through traditional performances and competitions.
The festival showcased a remarkable blend of tradition. Participants from distant regions brought elaborate Tusu idols. Meanwhile, Chouṛal displays added vibrancy to the venue.
Musical Extravaganza
Jhumer Samrat Santosh Mahto transformed the evening with his performances. He sang popular numbers including ‘Bhaloi Dhan Hoilo E Bochor’. Moreover, tracks like ‘Chal Sajni Regal Maidane’ resonated deeply. The audience swayed to every beat enthusiastically.
Guests joined attendees in dancing to traditional tunes. The atmosphere remained electric throughout the evening. In addition, the cultural performances reflected authentic Jharkhandi heritage.
Distinguished Guests Present
MP Bidyut Baran Mahto graced the occasion prominently. Former Health Minister Banna Gupta also attended. Furthermore, Ichagarh MLA Sabita Mahto joined the celebrations.

MP Bidyut Mahto delivered an impactful address. He emphasized that Tusu festival promotes unity across Jharkhand. However, he warned against cultural erosion threatening communities.
“Preserve your civilization, culture, and traditions,” he urged. Otherwise, communities risk gradual extinction, he cautioned. Moreover, he stressed education’s importance for children.

MLA Mangal Kalindi recalled late MP Sunil Mahto’s vision. The Tusu Mela now fulfills that dream. The event has grown significantly over years.
Seenu Rao anchored the program skillfully. Organizers including Sachin Mahto worked tirelessly. Besides, Gopal Mahto and Shiv Shankar Mahto coordinated effectively.
Bridging Community Divides
Astik Mahto delivered a powerful unifying message. He urged all castes to remain united. Moreover, he referenced Nirmal Mahto’s legacy inspiring movement.
“The Jharkhand movement sometimes lost direction,” he acknowledged. However, examples of unity remain abundant across communities. In addition, he addressed Kudmi-Adivasi tensions directly.
“Both communities sacrificed during statehood movement,” Astik reminded. Yet misunderstandings threaten this bond currently. Furthermore, he urged constitutional approaches to disagreements.
“Demand rights from government respectfully,” he advised. However, avoid mutual disrespect on social media. The appeal resonated strongly with attendees.
Martyrs Remembered
Freedom fighters received heartfelt tributes at the venue. Portraits of Raghunath Mahto adorned the stage. Meanwhile, Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s image inspired attendees.
Sido Kanhu and Vinod Bihari Mahto were honored. Moreover, Dishom Guru Shibu Soren’s contribution was acknowledged. In addition, martyr Nirmal Mahto received special recognition.
Former Deputy CM Sudhir Mahto was remembered fondly. Late MP Sunil Mahto’s vision shaped this cultural gathering. Furthermore, former MLA Sadhucharan Mahto was honored.
Remembering Sunil Babu
Several guests recalled late MP Sunil Mahto’s pioneering efforts. He transformed Tusu celebrations from riverbanks significantly. However, he brought festivities to Bistupur’s heart.
The Gopal Maidan venue reflects his visionary leadership. Moreover, former Deputy CM Sudhir Mahto was remembered. Coincidentally, he passed away on January 22.
Competition Winners Announced
The Tusu category witnessed fierce competition among participants. Dhanjay Mahto from Padnamsai won first prize. He received Rs 41,000 for his display.
Jagannath Mahto from Kharsawan secured second position. He took home Rs 35,000 as reward. Meanwhile, Chadri from Rajnagar claimed third place.
Deepak Mahto from Manpita won fourth prize. Angad Mahto and Phoolchand Gorai also received awards. The prizes recognized exceptional artistic efforts significantly.
Chouṛal Winners
Adivasi Puran Samiti from Khunti topped Chouṛal category. Virendra Puran led the winning team successfully. Moreover, they received Rs 31,000 as prize.
Adivasi Kisan Chouṛal Samiti secured second position. They earned Rs 25,000 for their performance. Furthermore, Sarna Chouṛal Samiti claimed third place.
Shri Shri Maa Durga Samiti finished fourth. Hemraj Mahto’s group received Rs 15,000. The competition showcased traditional folk art beautifully.
Dance Competition Results
Mahavir Mahto from Patamda won Budhi Gari Naach. He received Rs 15,000 as first prize. However, Harihar Tudu from Khakhidih came second.
Narva Khurshi secured third position in dancing. Jaychandra from Seraikela finished fourth place. On the other hand, all participants displayed remarkable traditional skills.
The festival successfully preserved and promoted Jharkhandi heritage magnificently.
